This task was to creat an interavtive comic story. As such we came up with "For Better, For Worse". For Better For Worse is a two layed comic which explores themes of love, time and change. The viewer is able to follow the story of two relationships, one from the past and one from the present silmutaenously. The purpose is to juxtopose the way things were done before as opposed to modern times.
The comic is a scroll down comic which shows gifs of text conversations representing relationships in present day which are highly reliant on technology.
When the viewer clicks on the phone, they are able to view the same situation but how it would have played out in the past. Once they are no longer hovering on the picture, they are directed back to the present which shows that while we can reminise upon the past all we truly have at this moment is the present.
The comic ends with the first gif showing the cyclical nature of present times when it comes to dating as opposed to the past when it was more likely to stick with a partner indefinitely even after arguing
WWe had a number of ideas starting off ranging from a satirical comic reflecting old age to addressing the question of a world without technology. In the end we decided to go with a merge between romance as it is always captivating and technological advances as this is truly a question that plagues us today. How has technology affected our lives ans are it's effects all positive? (See Drive for outlines)
We tried to split the tasks equally but much of it got overlapped over the week.
I did the sketches and edited all the 'olden times' panels (spech bubbles, picture frame etc) while Josefina worked on the gifs for modern day (designing phone and the phone texts).
Josefina did the framework for the website and the click animations and I did the scroll jacking.
Initially we wanted to use a glass break animation to change from past to present. I worked on this animation but in the end we decided not to include it.
Finally we did the polishing together which included me writing the intro text and the hyperlink back to top and Josefina formatting the intro and proofreading
Looking back on the process, I am pleased at the fact that we executed the core of the storyline upon which we had agreed. Even though the execution of this story changed greatly throughout the week, the fundamental ideal of juxtaposing past and present was maintained.
Some of the ideas changed after trial because we thought it could be improved (eg adding color to old time sketches) while some changed due to time constrainsts and level of difficulty (shattered glass forming iPhone) and some simply because we had varying ideas of how we wanted the comic to play out (shattered glass)
Still, having stuck to the core of the story, I think it has come out pretty well.
