30 Minute Film Festival

Synopsis

This website was made to premiere our 30MFF video which was entitled "?". The video portrayed the process of making a film but in a very trivial way. The idea was to make a meta-film about film making but ironically ended unsuccessfully with the team getting distracted by food.

Like wise the website has the feel of being very grand (or at least supposed to be). However, it is also very simply designed playing on aurburn black gradient also giving that ironic unfinished touch.

Still the website contains all the aspects of a traditional website with tabs and hyperlinks. The website allows for simple navigation and contains elements that make it catchy and exciting.

Concept and Theme

The theme as stated before was one of theatrical broadway/hollywood. Elements such as the red curtain to view the video, the old movie countdown and the hollywood star are placed accordingly to give this feel.

Likewise the fact that the countdown video is looped is supposed to play on the theme of time running out and also incompletion as it continues counting down but never actually reaching it's goal

Process

The creation of this website had its ups and downs. Initially I made a website framework which depicted what I wanted my website to look like. Fortunately I can say the my website does look similar to my frame which I consider a sucess. However getting to this point was quite challenging

I have worked with html before so I conceptually understood what I was doing. However that was a long time ago and I very basic coding.

The most difficult part was the positioning. I don't think I have fully mastered it yer - far from. Due to time constraints I decided to use absolute function which does not allow my blocks to reposition according to the screen. However, I will improve on this in the future.

Additionally, my videos currently as saved in the folder with the html code rather than embedded as it was proving difficult to display them when embedded. I also hope to improve this in the future.

Finally this process has exposed me to java script. I must admit that I don't really understand how Java Script works but I now have a basic understanding of the programming language which I did not have before so I believe that has been a beneficial part of this process
